Music, nature, and experiences are the sources that inspire Laila’s creativity. These influences pervade her work: Conceptually, her lived experiences set the tone for the pieces she creates and nature inspires characteristics such as form, composition, and color.

“My artistic journey has drawn me to a place where I find peace in a world of experimentation and where I enjoy exploring how ambiguity can inspire meaningful dialogues. My art examines themes relating to the intricacies of life and is meant to encourage viewers to participate in self-reflection while promoting an evaluative analysis of human nature and societal structures.”

The Student of the Month Program

In a collaboration that celebrates the creativity of young people, the Blue Whole Gallery is proud to join hands with the art departments are area high schools and colleges to shine a spotlight on student artists through our ‘Student of the Month” initiative. Each month the gallery showcases a standout student artist whose work exemplifies exceptional skill, originality, and a unique perspective.

This initiative not only provides a platform for these emerging artists to showcase their creations to a wider audience, but also integrates the fresh, innovative perspectives of its youth into the local Sequim art community. The Student of the Month collaboration stands as a testament to the transformative power of merging school art programs with community spaces, creating a nurturing environment where the next generation of artists can thrive and inspire.

Our students of the month and their artwork are featured every month during our First Friday Art walk. Once a year we also highlight the teachers of these students.
